A Few Important Things to Know Before Visiting Siargao

Siargao Island is more than a surf destination—it’s a protected nature reserve shaped by rich ecosystems, unique seasons, and strong island culture. At Galatea Tours, we champion sustainable travel by encouraging guests to know and respect their destination before they arrive.

SIPLAS or Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape: The entire Siargao and Bucas Grande islands are part of the largest Protected Area in the Philippines, recognized for its significant ecological biodiversity and importance.
RAINY SEASON: Monsoon is from December to March during the amihan season. Dry months are from April to November. But the island's location by the Pacific Ocean means it gets rain even in the dry months.
ISLAND ECONOMY: As an island, many goods are transported from the mainland, which can make prices slightly higher than elsewhere in the Philippines. While ATMs are accessible in General Luna, we recommend keeping small bills on hand for tricycle rides, neighborhood stores, and gratuities.
ISLAND CULTURE: Siargao people are warm and hospitable yet remain relatively conservative. Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly outside beach areas, be considerate of noise in neighborhoods (unless you've joined their karaoke!), and respect the island’s predominantly Catholic beliefs and customs.
